Description

What is mucus?

Mucus is a natural, slick, stringy fluid material formed by many of the body’s lining tissues. It is essential for body function and serves as a protective and moisturising layer that prevents vital organs from drying out. Mucus also traps irritants such as dust, smoke, and bacteria. Symptoms

If you blow your nose, you can see a red or brown colour in your mucus. This is usually a sign of blood in your mucus, which is caused by inflammation and the drying out of tissue lining the nasal passages, which is caused by rubbing, brushing, or blowing your nose too much.

There’s nothing to be concerned about whether there’s a small amount of blood in your mucus. However, if you’re experiencing a lot of bleeding, see the doctor. This may indicate a severe infection like bronchitis, pneumonia, or cancer.
